Megan RapinoeandSue Birdare “taking it all in” these Olympics — from the sidelines.
“I’m living my best life. No life has ever been lived better in this short span. I’m just walking around during the day and taking in the Parisian sights and then going to all these amazing events,” says Rapinoe, who’s been using her newSonos Aceheadphones on the trip.
Bird adds, “It’s great. You really do get to see so much more.”
The four-time gold medalist continues, “When you’re at the Olympics as an athlete, you’re totally dependent on the schedule, the practice schedule, your game schedule. Do you need to rest that day? Do you want to stay off your feet? So it doesn’t always work out to see a ton of things.”

This time around, the couple has been “been able to see everything” and “pick and choose” their own itinerary. “This is so much fun,” Rapinoe continues.
“It’s obviously fun if I’m competing and winning and doing all the things, but this is an incredible experience and Paris is just one of the best cities in the world for a reason so I’m really enjoying just taking it all in,” says Rapinoe.
Bird says the beach volleyball venue just under the Eiffel Tower is “such a vibe,” but it’s hard for her to pick a favorite venue. “Overall, all of the venues at the Paris Olympics have done such a good job of really incorporating the culture and the feel of Paris.”

For Rapinoe, the lilac track at the Stade de France stands out. “It’s sensational,” she tells PEOPLE.
The retired soccer star — and gold medalist — says the “most special thing” she’s seen so far is Trinity Rodman’s game-winning goal in overtime to send the USWNT to the semifinal round.

“I was going nuts,” says Rapinoe. “Me and Mia [Hamm] were sitting next to each other . . . And we were in the FIFA section, I don’t even know if you’re supposed to cheer. You’re supposed to be appropriate in there and we’re like, ‘We’re never getting invited back to this section, but let’s go.’ "
Rapinoe is looking forward to “popping my Sonos headphones on and walking around Paris,” which she says she has a “new appreciation for” since being “unable to walk for a little bit because of my injury.”
“I like to actually work out and walk to classical music because — I feel like especially in Paris, it’s so beautiful and so I’m just kind of drifting through the streets,” says Rapinoe.
The Sonos Ace headphones have a noise-cancelling option, which Rapinoe often utilizes, but Bird jokes, “sometimes I like to be a little bit more aware so I don’t get myself run over.”
