Just six months before she would meet her future husbandPrince Harry,Meghan Marklewrotea set of New Year’s resolutionson her now-shuttered blog, The Tig.

In that same post from The Tig — which Meghan closed ahead of her 2018 royal wedding to Harry — Meghan shared that she had allowed other New Year’s resolutions like re-learning French or running a marathon to take a backseat, and that in 2016 “the only thing I aim to do is to approach life playfully,” she wrote, adding that she had chosen to “resolve to not have a resolution” that year.

“To laugh and enjoy, to keep my standards high but my level of self-acceptance higher,” she added. “My New Year’s resolution is to leave room for magic. To make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change. To let the magic know that there is an open door policy with me in 2016 and that it is always welcome to join the party.”

Nearly six months to the day later, she’d meet Harry on a blind date over the summer; the two would announce their engagement on Nov. 27, 2017 before marrying the next May at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor. Since then, they’ve welcomed kidsPrince Archie, 5, andPrincess Lilibet, 3, and stepped back from their roles as working royals nearly five years ago on Jan. 8, 2020.
