Mich. Police Officer Helps Escort Couple in Labor to Hospital After Trying to Stop Them: 'Our Family Hero'

Mar. 15, 2025

A Michigan police officer helped escort a pregnant mom and her fiancé to a local hospital after learning the woman was in labor.

The couple was near Hall Road and Van Dyke Avenue when Officer Liz Demuynck of the Utica Police Department spotted them making an illegal turn.

But Sadowski did not want to stop, so he called 911 and explained the situation, WXYZ and WJBK reported. Eventually, he pulled over and met Demuynck, who quickly understood the couple’s urgency.

So, Demuynck, a mom of two herself, told Sadowski to “keep going,” according to WJBK. Meanwhile, she took out her radio and informed her colleagues she was escorting the couple to the hospital.

“I think it just really made me go into go-mode — just get her there and get her safe,” Demuynck told WXYZ.

After reaching Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital, Demuynck helped the couple inside. Sadowski was still worried about getting pulled over.

“Do you need my license for anything?” Sadowski recalled asking, to which Demuynck replied “No, you are fine, take care,” according to WJBK.

The officer and parents have remained in touch since Henry’s birth. Demuynck was simply happy to help during Weertz and Sadowski’s time of need.

“Being a mom and being able to put yourself in her shoes of what you’ve gone through when you’ve delivered babies, it’s a very scary situation,” the officer told WXYZ. “Things can turn so fast.”

Weertz and Sadowski are thankful for Demuynck’s help, as well. “She was our family hero," Sadowski said.
