My Lady JaneCancellation: Edward Bluemel Is 'Really Happy' After George R.R. Martin Shares Fan Petition to Save 'Clever' Show

Fans' fight to saveMy Lady Janefrom cancellation just got a major stamp of approval.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10,George R.R. Martingave a shoutout to the impressive Change.orgpetition— which boasts over 67,000 signatures — that was organized to reverse Prime Video’s August decision to cancel the series after just one season.

StarEdward Bluemel, who played Jane Grey’s (Emily Bader) husband, reshared Martin’s post as he said the author’s words about the series made him “really happy.”

In ablogpost, Martin, 75, wrote that he “really enjoyed"My Lady Jane, as he shared that he’s “always loved alternate history and Jane Grey, England’s nine-days queen, has always fascinated me.”

He called the series a “clever and original historical fantasy” as he gave kudos to the showrunner Meredith Glynn, with whom he previously worked on a now-shelvedGame of Thronesspinoff.

“Knowing her talents, it did not surprise me thatMy Lady Janewas so much fun,” he wrote, before acknowledging the petition. “Got to love the fans. I wish them luck. Jane deserved more than nine days, or eight episodes.”

The news ofMy Lady Jane’s cancellation came after the series had not only left season 1 off with a clear set-up for more, but also had developed quite a strong fanbase online, which prompted the petition.

Star Emily Bader, who played the titular queen in the reimagined tale of Lady Jane Grey — this time, she is not beheaded after nine days on the throne, like she was in real life — told PEOPLE prior to the cancellation news thatshe thought Jane “would make a great queen” and was hoping to see that prophecy fulfilled in a second season.

“It’s really interesting because, I think for the first time in her life, she is free,” Bader, 27, said. “But she’s also not at all. Because she’s left her family and her sisters in the grasp of someone who is ferociously angry with her.”

Jane’s relationship with her husband, Lord Guildford Dudley (Bluemel) — who had finally broken his curse and could transform into a horse at will rather than because of the sunrise — was also on Bader’s mind.

“I love the fact that we ended on Guildford being able to be in the daylight. I think that’s so beautiful,” she said. “I’d love to see them be able to sort of find each other now that they’re fully open, but also I imagine that there’s got to be some tension, because Jane is very strong-willed and she’s not going to necessarily put their relationship to the forefront of her priorities if something that is as dire as the survival of her family is on the line.”

Still, Bader said Jane and Guildford are “made for each other.”
