My Mom and I Can't Stop Using Scarlett Johansson's Multipurpose Balm to Heal Our Dry, Chapped Lips

As New Englanders, my mom and I have gone through many winters trying to heal dry, cracked skin, and after using countlesslip balmsand hand creams, I can confidently say we know what products are the real deal.

From an$80 La Mer lipbalm to a$7 tube of Aquaphor, we’ve truly tried it all, and we’re sharing the different products that actually work for us — starting with theBotanical Barrier Rescue Balmfrom Scarlett Johansson’s clean beauty line, The Outset. We both picked the product up from Nordstrom, and after using it for a few months, it quickly became a staple in our respective beauty routines.

I typically use the deeply nourishing balm to help soothe my raw, chapped lips, but it can also be used as a moisturizer for your hands, body, and face. I also love to use it on my nails and elbows since they get extra dry in the winter.

The formula is packed with a blend of hydrating botanical oils that protect the skin’s natural barrier without being too harsh or greasy. Rose hip oil softens skin while reducing signs of aging, Marula oil helps boost cell renewal and improve elasticity, and Camellia oil deeply hydrates the skin. It’s also made with The Outset’s signature botanical alternative to hyaluronic acid — Hyaluroset Complex.

The multipurpose product is small enough to keep in my everyday bag, but there’s more than enough product to feel like you’re getting your money’s worth. At $38, it’s a bit of a splurge for a balm, but I’ve only just started to make a dent in the 1.5-ounce jar after using it consistently for months — so it will last you a while. I only have to use the balm once or twice daily to experience the long-lasting moisturizing effects, unlike typical lip balms, which require more frequent application.

My mom and I are far from the only fans of the celebrity-backed nourishing balm. One Nordstrom shopper in their 60s wrote that they are “addicted” to the product, adding that the “silky balm is excellent to soothe dry skin, hands, and lips.”
