NE-YO’s ties to Las Vegas are “Closer” than ever now!
On Wednesday, Aug. 7, theGood Mansinger, 44, kicked off night one of his Human Love Rebellion residency in his hometown of Las Vegas — where he was surprised with a key to the city from Mayor Carolyn Goodman.
Two songs into his show at the Encore Theatre at Wynn Las Vegas, the mayor walked onstage to bestow the honor on the three-time Grammy-winning songwriter and also award him a formal proclamation declaring Aug. 7 “NE-YO Day” in the city.

According to a press release, the two awards acknowledge NE-YO’s success as a hitmaker and philanthropist who has contributed to Las Vegas over the years, including working with the local Boys & Girls Club.

NE-YO will treat fans in Sin City to his iconic, multi-platinum catalog as he finishes out his mini-residency on Aug. 9 and 10. Back in April, the singer got a chance to celebrate his discography during hisTiny Desk Concertappearance at NPR — where he performed hits like “So Sick,” “Because of You” and “Miss Independent,” plus those he’s penned for others likeBeyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” andRihanna’s “Take a Bow.”
He also performed a new single titled “2 Million Secrets,” which he officially released on June 14, that addressed a toxic relationship and infidelities. “This song is basically about owning your s—. That’s the best way I can put it,” NE-YO told the Tiny Desk crowd. “Nobody is above mistakes, nobody is above redemption, and you do better and you keep pushing.”

TheLibra Scaleartist’s latest song also marks a pivotal milestone, as it’s his first track as a fully independent artist for the first time in his career.
“It’s a blessing to be in this position to control my own destiny as an independent artist,” NE-YO said in a statement previously shared with PEOPLE. “My artistry means everything to me, and I’m excited to embrace this new beginning.”
