Nelson Rockefeller’s former aide Megan Marshack didn’t shy away from her connection to the former vice president in herself-written obituary.
The journalist died at age 70 due to liver and kidney failure on Oct. 2, 2024. In her obituary, Marshack noted her connection to Rockefeller — with whom she was rumored to have been romantically involved — after staying mum on him for a majority of her life.
In fact, she named Rockefeller in the opening line, writing that she was “associated around the world” with his death. She then detailed her work with him, noting that she was his “assistant press secretary” in 1976, which was his “last year in public office.”
She went on to discuss her achievements as Rockefeller’s “deputy press secretary” after he returned to his “private life in New York,” which included “working as the director of his art collection” and assisting “in projects involving international ventures.”
While she never outright discussed her relationship with Rockefeller, Marshack seemingly addressed the rumors of their romance at the conclusion of her obituary, with a lyric from the 1975 musicalA Chorus Line.
Speculation about a romantic relationship between Marshack and Rockefeller first sparked after she began working for the politician. Her friends previously shared howshe came to work for Rockefellerin an interview with AP Radio, saying that she landed an interview following her graduation from California State University, Northridge.

“She heard that he liked Oreo cookies and she came prepared [to the interview] with some — individually wrapped,” a former colleague recalled to the outlet, adding that the Oreos paid remarkable dividends.
“One day she was on the schedule for an interview, and shortly after that she came to work,” a former member of Rockefeller’s staff added. “Then one time, at the end of a big office party, Megan put her arm around [Rockefeller], and we all just stood there stunned.”
“After the ’76 election just a handful of people were offered jobs with him in New York,” her colleague continued. “No one was surprised when Megan was one of them.”
