According to apress releasefrom the North Yorkshire police in England, released Saturday, Jan. 11, officer Rosie Prior had stopped to assist a driver, Ryan Welford of Knaresborough, who had been involved in a collision in the North Yorkshire area.
The pair, who died at the scene, were standing together near a highway when a truck carrying heavy goods collided with them around 8:55 a.m. local time.

A teenage boy in Welford’s vehicle also sustained injuries and is in stable condition at the hospital.

“We are doing everything we can to support Rosie’s family, along with the family of a man who was also tragically killed in the incident,” he continued. “This is clearly a deeply traumatic and heartbreaking event for everyone involved and we ask that the two families are left alone to grieve in peace. They do not want any media outlets to contact or approach them.”

Forber concluded, “Rosie’s response team colleagues in York, and from around the force, are being supported at this extremely difficult time.”
According to the release,Prior, 45, joined the police force as a student officer in May 2022. Her family described her as a “loving mum, wife, daughter, sister and auntie” who “will be deeply missed.”
