“It was such a huge moment in time that is almost like … it feels almost like another lifetime now,” Bloom, 48, said of the blockbuster Disney franchise in an interview withEntertainment Weekly. “But it certainly was unique and, you know, I’m always grateful.”
Bloom starred in the first threePiratesmovies as Will Turner alongside Knightley as Elizabeth Swann andJohnny Deppas Captain Jack Sparrow. He and Knightley sat out the fourth film, 2011’sOn Stranger Tides, only returning for cameo appearances in 2017’sDead Men Tell No Tales.

Late last year, while promoting her Netflix seriesBlack Doves,Knightley, 39, expressed ambivalenceabout her experience starring in thePiratesmovies, tellingThe Timesthat she felt the franchise “was making and breaking” her at the same time.
“I was seen as s— because of them,” she explained, “and yet because they did so well I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for.”

“They were the most successful films I’ll ever be a part of and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly,” Knightley toldThe Times. “So they’re a very confused place in my head.”
