Peter Dinklagehad a far better off-screen relationship with hisGame of ThronescostarCharles Dancethan he had on-screen.

The actor, 55, appeared on the latest episode ofHot Oneson Thursday, Oct. 17, and chatted about his time on the HBO fantasy show and the friendships he forged with his castmates.

Thefour-time Emmy winnerexplained to hostSean Evanshow much he values his friendship with his onscreen father, Dance. Dinklage portrayed Tyrion Lannister and Dance, 78, portrayed Tywin Lannister.

“I love Charlie Dance, he’s one of my favorite human beings,” Dinklage began. The actor explained that all Dance’s character did was “humiliate me” and eventually sentence Tyrion to death. Before he detailed the interactions, Dinklage credited their emotional performances to the “great dialogue” fromGoTcreators Dan Weiss and David Benioff. “It really felt really lived in.”

“We would get really invested in those things,”  he said. “Just like between every take, he would come over and just gently touch me on the shoulder.” Dinklage said they didn’t have the time to “hug it out,” but the interactions “felt very paternal too.”

“But, he played a horrible human being, but he’s one of my favorite human beings,” the actor told Evans.

Ahead of the season 3 finale in March 2013, Dance spoke withNMEand praised Dinklage. The veteran actor confessed to constantly apologizing to his costar. “I spend a lot of my time with Peter Dinklage and he’s the most adorable man, a wonderful actor,” Dance said at the time.

“After all those scenes, I apologize to him every time. I have to treat him like s—. You’ve only seen a little snippet of the awfulness in episode 1.”
