Pregnant Kristen Doute Recounts Experiencing a 'Threatened Miscarriage' That Came 'Out of Nowhere': 'Full Panic Mode'

Kristen Douteis opening up about a “scary” experience amid her pregnancy.

On a Friday, Dec. 13 episode of her podcastBalancing Act,TheValleystar, 41, shared that she had to go to the hospital the previous weekend after experiencing some heavy bleeding.

“Something not so fun that happened to us over the weekend,” Doute began. “We’ll be brief about this but I feel like it’s important to talk about because if other women experience it…other women that I honestly read about online and a few friends are what got me through this.”

Doute explained that the incident began when she started “bleeding really heavily” on the couch, adding that it was “out of nowhere.”

After calling her doctor, Doute went to the hospital, where she and her fiancé Luke Broderick had to drive to three different emergency rooms before they were able to be seen.

“I’m still bleeding, and that’s the scary part,” she remembered. “I don’t know what this means, because I’m in full panic mode, like, ‘How much have I actually lost? How much blood am I going to keep losing? Is this going to keep happening? Is it not going to stop ever?'”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a threatened miscarriage describes mild vaginal bleeding during a pregnancy that can come with or without abdominal pain or cramping.

“It was just a really unfortunate thing that happened to us,” she said at the time. “And I know that we can try fairly soon. And I think that we’re very hopeful to have a very healthy pregnancy the next time around.”

A year later, in November 2024, Douteannounced exclusively with PEOPLE that she is pregnantand had used intrauterine insemination (IUI). “After our pregnancy loss last year, we decided to start trying in early 2024,” Doute said. “I knew my age could be a factor in conceiving, so Luke and I discussed going for an extra push, a little help.”

“The two weeks following the IUI procedure felt like years. To get a correct outcome on a pregnancy test, 2 weeks time had to pass and I had to wait it out but in my heart I knew it had worked. I tested one day early and got the big PREGNANT result staring back at me.”

“I was relieved, overwhelmed, happy, excited and nervous. The second I told Luke, he wasn’t surprised, but was SO happy that IUI worked the first time (we were prepared that it may not),” she continued. “He was joyful and beyond excited, to say the least! Our due date is in June and we are really looking forward to expanding our little family and becoming parents!”
