Prince Harry's Upcoming N.Y.C. Visit Will Include a Stop Honoring Mother Princess Diana's Legacy

Prince Harry’supcoming trip to New York Citywill include time with the organization behindPrincess Diana’s legacy award.

The Diana Award shared on Aug. 28 that the Duke of Sussex, 39, will participate in an event with the charity when he visits N.Y.C. next month during UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week.

The Diana Award was established in Princess Diana’s memory following her death in 1997 at age 36 and is dedicated to empowering young people to create change. Both of her sons, Prince Harry andPrince William, support its work andappeared separately(William in person, Harry virtually) at the Legacy Award event in London in March.

Ojo told PEOPLE, “It’s a privilege tohave the supportof both the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex, particularly as we mark our 25th anniversary year."

Despite their rift, William and Harry have both continued to support the Diana Award. In July 2023, the brothersappeared in separate videosfor the annual ceremony honoring young changemakers.

Of the princes' virtual participation at that event, Ojo told PEOPLE, “They want to walk in their mother’s footsteps. We are very grateful and privileged that we continue to have both their support in supporting young people on a personal level. They understand how these young people are passionate about social change.”

The update from the Diana Award came the day after it was announced that Prince Harry will visit New York City in September. A spokesperson said that the Duke of Sussex will make the trip to “advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives.”

“He will participate in engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, the Diana Award and Travalyst,” the spokesperson added.

Prince Harry will also “be furthering the work of the Archewell Foundation, the nonprofit organization he co-founded with his wifeMeghan, the Duchess of Sussex,” the spokesperson added.

The Duke of Sussex’s upcoming trip might overlap with another event happening in the Big Apple for Prince William’sEarthshot Prize. On Sept. 24, the Prince of Wales' global environmental contest and Bloomberg Philanthropies will co-hostthe third annual Earthshot Prize Innovation Summitat the Plaza Hotel.

Prince Harry was last in New York City with Meghan, 43, in October 2023 for the Archewell Foundation’sfirst in-person event. The Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit: Mental Wellness in a Digital Age panel brought together parents who experienced tragic loss connected to their child’s social media use, and the couple have sinceannounced the launchofThe Parents Networkas a support system.
