Last week, theLegally Blondeactress, 48, dished out a look that I am most certainly putting on a silver platter.She was spotted in New York Citysporting a black mini dress (LBDs always!) and slung a long-sleeve sweater around her shoulders. To keep everything in harmony, she matched the impressive pink color of her topper to her pink and black shoes, which appeared to be slingbacks — a styleMeghan Markle is known to wear.

She also added a chunky gold necklace, a stack of bracelets, black sunglasses, and what looks to be a crossbody bag.

I only wear shapewear when Ireallyhave to, meaning I avoid tighter-fitting silhouettes that hug my midsection (I’m not going to wear a tight dress to sit at a computer all day). Fortunately, Witherspoon’s dress seemed pretty comfortable.

I love that this discounted LBD from Nordstrom has a snug bodice but breezy bottom, so it’s nice and shapely without being snug all over. It’s also made from a sweater material, so it shouldn’t flap around in the wind since it’s a bit heavier. Speaking of which, it can be transitioned into fall with the appropriate jacket and shoes, too.

Another way to master summer and fall fashion? Dress like an onion — or in other words, wear lots of peelable layers. For example, I get sweaty and overstimulated when I’m outside, but once I’m inside I’m typically shivering. This is where a lightweight cardigan, like this Grace Karin sweater, would make my day.

It looks warm but still light enough to carry around in my arms, in my tote bag (if I’m not wearing it while I’m traveling), or tossed over my shoulders. It also comes in sizes S to 3XL and has a slightly longer length, which is similar to oneNicole Kidman recently wore.

Witherspoon’s black dress and pink cardigan were a pretty package, but, in my eyes, her shoes were the bow on top that really brought everything together. This pair, which has actual bows, comes in a similar bubbly color and they’re also flat, so you can stomp around without having foot pain.
