Savannah Guthrieis revealing the encounter that led her to loveKhloé Kardashian.During a recent interview withAndy Cohenin aSiriusXM TODAY Show Radio town hall, Guthrie opened up about an experience she had during her early days on theTodayshow. When reflecting on some of her most embarrassing moments, Guthrie said there is one segment with Khloé, 40, that she will never forget.“Khloé was on, and there had been these stories circulating in the press that her father,Robert Kardashian, wasn’t really her father,” the host explained. “I can’t even remember the details, but I know the producers at the time, none of whom are here today, really wanted me to ask and I was very embarrassed to ask such a question. And so I did what any naive, green anchor would do, which is leave it to the last.”“Well, at theTodayshow, we have a thing called the ‘hard out.’ And the hard out means you have to be done, the show is going to black at such and such time,” she continued, revealing that she would be given 10 seconds to wrap up the segment.“Andy, I said, ‘Khloé, and just real quickly, in the seconds we have, there’ve been some stories that Robert Kardashian is not your father. Is he?’ And she’s like, and God bless her, and I will always — if I saw her today — I’d hug her for this. I don’t know if she’s such a pro that she saw them counting down like ‘three, two…’ And she said, ‘Yep, I know. Nothing to it.’ And I was like, ‘and we’ll be right back.’”Looking back, Guthrie can laugh at the memory, but at the time, she remembers the panic she felt.“She saved my butt,” she said. “She’s a doll.”(L-R) Savannah Guthrie and Khloe Kardashian.Peter Kramer/NBCU Photo Bank/NBCUniversal via Getty Images via GettyNever miss a story — sign up forPEOPLE’s free daily newsletterto stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.Khloé has been outspoken about her bond with her father, who died in 2003 at the age of 59 just two months after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
