S.C. Woman Gets 25 Years for Drunken Crash that Killed Newlywed Bride in Golf Cart

A South Carolina woman accused of killing a bride on her wedding day while driving drunk in April 2023 has reportedly pleaded guilty to four criminal charges related to the incident.

LocalWCBD,WCSC, andWCNCreported that Jamie Lee Komoroski pleaded guilty Monday afternoon to a felony charge for a DUI causing death, two felony charges for a DUI causing great bodily injury, and another charge for reckless homicide.

After her guilty plea, she was sentenced to 25 years behind bars, according to multiple reports.

Komoroski, 26, was arrested on April 29, 2023, the day after she crashed her car into a golf cart carrying newlywedsSamantha MillerandAric Hutchinsonon their wedding day. A South Carolina Law Enforcement Division toxicology report had found Komoroski was three times over the blood alcohol limit at the time of the crash.

WCBD reported that Komoroski was driving 65 mph in a 25-mph zone. Two other passengers riding in the golf cart along with Miller and Hutchinson survived the crash. Prosecutors also reportedly pointed out that Komoroski denied a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test after the crash.

The outlet reported that Komoroski told the court on Monday that she is currently in Alcoholics Anonymous, which she began attending while in jail after the crash.

Hutchinson sued Komoroski as well as bars that served her drinks, which resulted in a judge ordering a$1.3 million settlement.

Miller, who was 34, died at the scene of the crash from blunt force injuries, Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Nealtold PEOPLElast year. Meanwhile, Hutchinson had “reconstruction surgeries, numerous broken bones, and a brain injury," according to aGoFundMepage from his mother.

“I was handed Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows,” Hutchinson’s mother Annette wrote in the fundraiser post at the time. “Aric has lost the love of his life.”

Miller’s mother Lisa Miller spoke out against Komoroski in court last August,according to ABC News. “She didn’t just kill my child," the bride’s mother said. “She killed all of us.”

Circuit Judge Michael Nettles said “this is certainly a very tragic situation for all concerned,” the outlet reported at the time.

Miller’s mother spoke again in court on Monday shortly after Komoroski entered her guilty pleas, according to WCBD, which reported the mother was “visibly and audibly emotional” while addressing the judge.

“She doesn’t get to come back to life in ten years, twenty-five years,” the bride’s mother said. “This is a lifetime.”
