See Joni Mitchell's Rare Performance of 'Both Sides Now' — from Her Throne! — at FireAid Benefit Concert

On Thursday, Jan. 30, the legendary folk singer-songwriter, 81, took the stage at the Kia Forum for the FireAid Benefit Concert in L.A.

Perched in a golden throne, Mitchell sang her 1966 classic “Both Sides Now” while musician Blake Mills accompanied her on guitar.

During the set, she was tapping a black cane on the floor.

The 18-time Grammy nominee even changed up the lyrics during her set.

While the lyrics of the track are typically, “They shake their heads/ They say I’ve changed. Well something’s lost/ But something’s gained,” Mitchell sang: “They shake their heads/ They say, ‘Joni, you’ve changed’/ Well something’s lost/ But something’s gained.”

The lineup for the FireAid benefit concert, which raised money for rebuilding communities and supporting efforts to prevent future fire disasters throughout Southern California, was announced on Jan. 16.

The concert was held at both the Intuit Dome and Kia Forum.

Starting at 6 p.m. PT, the Kia Forum show featuredAlanis Morissette,Anderson .Paak,John Mayer,Dawes,Graham Nash,Green Day,John Fogerty,Joni Mitchell,No Doubt,P!nk,Red Hot Chili Peppers,Stephen Stills,Stevie Nicks, andThe Black Crowes.

Dave Matthewswas originally slated to play with Mayer, 47, but he needed to bow out “due to a critical illness in the family,” as per his band’s officialInstagram page.

The wildfires began Tuesday, Jan. 7, in the Pacific Palisades along the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), before growing into multiple blazes throughout the L.A. area.
