“I really wanted to support a black designer and she makes impeccable dresses for women,” Dobrev told reporters on the carpet.

She even appeared to give her fiancé a sweet smooch on the carpet.

“I was incredibly excited to get the invitation to give out a prize at the awards,” theVampire Diariesalum tells PEOPLE. “It’s a great cause. It’s incredible we get to highlight all these incredible groundbreaking innovators in all the things they’re doing.”

She continues of the Earthshot Prize Awards finalists: “They’re so unique and they’re so different and they’re all touching the world in helping in their own unique way. But we need all of them. We’re going to give out five awards but all of the finalists are going to get mentorship and support from the organization.”

“We need this now more than ever,” Dobrev adds. “The world is in dire need.”

Earlier this week,a source spoke to PEOPLEabout how Dobrev and White are “glowing” as an engaged pair.

“Everyone is so happy for them,” the source told PEOPLE. “After the proposal, they were calling and texting friends saying, ‘It can’t get better than this’ and were just glowing.”

The insider believes Dobrev and White’s upcoming wedding will be a “a blowout party.”

“They are the perfect fit together — fun and adventurous, but also very grounding for each other,” the source added.
