Stingwill be taking some time to recover.
On Tuesday, Jan. 21, the musician/activist (whose real name Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) announcedon Instagramthat he would be postponing multiple concerts and an award show appearance on doctor’s advice due to a “temporary throat infection.”
“On advisement from his doctor, due to illness, it is with sincere regret that Sting must cancel his appearance at the Bass Magazine Awards this Thursday and postpone his STING 3.0 concerts in Phoenix, AZ (originally scheduled for January 24) to June 1 and Wheatland, CA (originally scheduled for January 26) to May 28 as well as his performance at the Cherrytree Music Company’s 20th anniversary, now taking place May 29,” read the statement.
It continued: “Fans should retain their tickets for the postponed shows, as they will be honored on the new dates. Sting sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience and extends his gratitude to the fans for their understanding.”
On Jan. 22, the “Fragile” artist further shared information about his illness in anInstagram post.
“Thanks so much for all of the well wishes,” he wrote. “I am steadily improving from a temporary throat infection which has prevented me from singing, though I’m looking forward to resuming my performances and rescheduled shows soon.”
Sting will no longer be performing at the Bass Magazine Awards this Thursday, which is where he was due to be honored with a lifetime achievement award.
The former Police frontman also postponed his concert in Phoenix to June 1 (originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24) and his Wheatland, Calif. show to May 28 (originally scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 26).
Sting performance at the Cherrytree Music Company’s 20th anniversary — originally set to take place on Saturday, Jan. 25 in Los Angeles) has been rescheduled for May 29.
The “Every Breath You Take” performer advised fans to keep their tickets for the postponed shows, as they would still be valid for the new dates.
In arecent interviewfor theSunday Timesalongside his wife Trudie Styler, he revealed that their son, Joe, lost his home in theL.A. wildfires.
“He’s got three little ones so it’s devastating,” Styler, 71, said of their son. “They’ve found a pet-friendly hotel for them and the dogs.”

The concert will take place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. and at the Kia Forum on Jan. 30.
Sting has not yet revealed whether he’ll be pulling out of the show.
