After a two-year hiatus, Taylor Jenkins Reid has announced a new book!

The latest from the bestselling author ofThe Seven Husbands of Evelyn HugoandDaisy Jones and the Sixwill hit shelves from Ballantine Books on June 3, 2025.

A romance between two astronauts,Atmosphereis “an epic novel set against the backdrop of the 1980s space shuttle program and the extraordinary lengths we go to live and love beyond our limits,” according to a press release shared with PEOPLE.

The protagonist in the new book, Joan Goodwin, is an astronomer and astronaut who works at NASA’s Houston Mission Control Center. Joan, who remains on Earth to communicate with those in space, must think quickly on her feet when the spacecraft carrying her love interest incurs danger.

“I wanted so badly to tell a story that was life or death, where the stakes were so immediate — and we understood that it might not always go the way that we want it to go,“Jenkins Reid told Vogue. “There’s something beautiful to be found in this heightened moment.”
