Aside from Danson andKristen Bell,Manny Jacinto,Jameela Jamil,William Jackson Harperand D’Arcy Carden were unaware of what was going to happen to their characters at the time.

TheCheersalum recalled how Kransinski was “off to make some amazing movie” and had asked if he also had any exciting projects in the works.

“I said, ‘Well, I’m about to work with your buddy, Mike Schur and we’re doing something calledThe Good Place,'” he said.

After he revealed that the series would take place in the afterlife, Danson watched “his eyes kinda dim a little bit, because he was going, ‘Oh, I get it. It’sThe Officein heaven.'”

“I went, ‘No, no, no! You don’t understand. See, at the end of the first year, it turns out I’m a demon. I’m not the good guy, I’m the bad guy,'” he continued. “And he went, Oh, that’s pretty cool.’ And I went, ‘Yeah, f—ing A! And oh, shoot!'”

The Good Placeran for four seasons from 2016 to 2020 and followed Eleanor (Bell), Tahani (Jamil), Jason (Jacinto) and Chidi (Harper) as they navigated the afterlife alongside architect Michael (Danson) and assistant Janet (Carden). Though they initially believe they’ve entered “the Good Place,” the quickly realize that their errors in judgement in their human lives have landed them in “the Bad Place.”
