Tanner Tomczak was hosting Friendsgiving on Saturday, Nov. 23, with his wife Kaylie when he was involved in the crash, according toCBS affiliate KHOU.
The Montgomery County man said he was “riding the 4-wheeler harmlessly down the street” when he “hit a bump going too fast” and flipped the vehicle on top of himself.
Six weeks earlier, Tanner and Kaylie tied the knot. They had just purchased their first home as well.

“He’s been my best friend the whole time,” Kaylie told KHOU. “But to see him go through it has been hard. It’s been a struggle, but we’re glad we have each other. I’ve been here every night, so I’ll still stay here.”
Tanner added, “I wouldn’t want to have anyone else in this room besides her.”
Tanner sustained several injuries, including “a broken pelvis on both right and left sides, a broken tailbone, a broken left collarbone, several hematomas, and road rash from head to toe,” according to Tanner’s mom Nikki Tomczak, who organized aGoFundMe campaignfor her son.
“At this time, he has undergone surgery to place a plate in the collarbone, a pin in the tailbone, and was supposed to get pins in his pelvis, but they were unable to place them,” Nikki wrote.

The mom said doctors “had to screw a rod on the exterior of his body” and that Tanner has needed at least “one blood transfusion so far.”
Her son will also need inpatient rehabilitation for at least seven days and will be “unable to walk until he goes back for another surgery to remove the rod,” according to his mom.
Tanner will be out of work for three to four months, Nikki said. More than $15,000 has been raised through the GoFundMe campaign to support Tanner and Kaylie following the unexpected crash.
“The financial burden for this young couple just starting out is an extreme hardship, and they desperately need help to ensure all of Tanner’s medical and rehab needs are met,” the mom wrote.
