TheBlueyMovie Is Coming! All the Details We Know (So Far) About the Beloved Dog’s Big-Screen Debut

Blueyis gearing up for a big-screen adventure!

Based on the beloved Australian animated preschool series, the first-everBlueyanimated film is officially in the works. The film will be a Ludo Studio production from BBC Studios and the Walt Disney Company and will be released in theaters worldwide in 2027.

While details remain under wraps,Melanie Zanettiand David McCormack are set to reprise their roles as Bluey’s mom, Chilli, and dad, Bandit, with original creator Joe Brumm leading the project as writer and director.

In a Dec. 17press releaseannouncing the project, Brumm shared that he “always thought ‘Bluey’ deserved a theatrical movie,” and was looking forward to giving the beloved dog a bigger story.

“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that," he said. “I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together.”

In addition to her own movie, Bluey is headed to Disney as the company announced on Dec. 19 that it was adding the character to theme parks and the Disney Cruise Line, perThe Hollywood Reporter.

Although specific plot details have not been revealed, the press release states that the film will deliver “the same charm and humor that made the television series a global phenomenon.”

“The movie will continue the adventures of Bluey, a loveable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad and her little sister, Bingo,” per the release.

The latest season concluded with a shock: the creators dropped an unexpected episode titled “Surprise” after releasing “The Sign,” which was originally billed as the finale.

“The Sign” — which was four times as long as the averageBlueyepisode — was anemotional rollercoasteras Bandit received a job offer that would require the family to move away from their home in Brisbane, leaving the rest of the Heelers struggling to process the news.

In the final moments, however, Bandit knocked down the “For Sale” sign in front of their house, signaling that the Heelers were staying put and culminating in a heartfelt family hug in the end.

Meanwhile, “Surprise"offered a glimpse into Bluey’s future. It ended with a visit from a grown-up Bluey (and her future child!) returning home to visit her parents in the same house on the hill that she grew up in.

The film version will hear some familiar voices, as Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack will reprise their roles as Bluey’s parents, Chilli and Bandit, respectively.

The voice of Bluey herself has always been anonymous, so it is unclear who will voice the dog in the movie. However, Geraldine Hakewill voiced the adult Bluey in “Surprise.”

Blueycreator Brumm is set to write and direct the movie version, with Richard Jeffery returning to co-direct. Brum will also serve as executive producer.

They will team up with award-winning animation producer Amber Naismith (Happy Feet, The Lego Movie).
