Video Shows Police Rescuing Injured Man from Tracks ‘With Only Seconds to Spare’ as Train Speeds By

In a video posted toFacebookon Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Seattle Police Department shared footage of the Oct. 7 incident that occurred in downtown area.

According to authorities, patrol officers responded to a call at 9:16 p.m. about a man, 57, “experiencing mental health crisis sitting on a ledge high above the train tracks" in the vicinity of 2nd Avenue Exit and East Jackson Street.

They added that “officers began speaking with him in hopes of getting him to back to safety.” In the clip, an officer can be heard telling the man, “I want to help you and I need you to hear me when I say that.”

Shortly after, the man fell 25 feet below onto rocks and injured himself near the train tracks, authorities said.

While they had requested that all inbound trains be halted due to the emergency, one was already on its way, police said, adding that officers on the lower platform hurried over to where the man was as the speeding train with its blaring horn approached.

As the footage showed, the man was successfully rescued. “An officer dragged the man to safety, risking his life, with only seconds to spare,” the authorities wrote on Facebook.

The name of the police officer who saved the man in the rescue was not disclosed in the department’s Facebook post.
