In January 2023, creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar confirmed in an interview with Netflix’s Tudumthat the show, which follows Wednesday’sattempt to solve a monster mysteryat her new school, Nevermore Academy, was renewedfor a second season.
“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world,” they said in a statement. “Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
During a conversation withElle Fanningin 2023 forVariety‘s bi-annual Actors on Actors, Ortega explained that the show is “ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday” in the new season, which explains the absence of White and Ogawa.
“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more,” she revealed. “Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.”
Season 1 ofWednesdayis now streaming on Netflix.
