Karla Sofía Gascónhas been married to her wife, Marisa Gutiérrez, with whom she has a daughter named Victoria, for years.

According toThe New York Times, Gascón and Gutiérrez first met as teenagers. The Spanish actress has kept details about their relationship mostly private, revealing in a December 2024 episode of theA solas conpodcast that she has known Gutiérrez for over 30 years.

Gascón and Gutiérrez eventually wed and welcomed their only child, Victoria Gutiérrez, in 2011. The actress' wife and daughter have attended industry events with her in the past, and a source told PEOPLE that Gascón has plans to be at the Oscars amid the backlash she’s currently facing.

After starring inMexican telenovelas, Gascón played the titular character in the 2024 musical filmEmilia Pérez. Gascón and Marisa met as teenagers

Gascón and Marisa met at a nightclub in Spain when they were 19 and 18, respectively, though it’s unclear when the couple married.

“We’ve obviously shared a big chunk of our lives together, but I’ve never deceived her about who I was,” the Golden Globe nominee toldThe New York Timesin November 2024, referring to her decision to have gender-affirming surgery in 2018.

There was a period when Gascón and Marisa weren’t together. In her 2018 book,Karsia, Una Historia Extraordinaria, the actress detailed her relationship with a female politician in Mexico, perRolling Stone.

Before transitioning, Gascón conceived a child with Marisa. Victoria was born in December 2011 — and the actress almost missed her birth due to filming a telenovela in Mexico. According to Gascón, production wanted her to stay on set instead of taking a leave of absence but she returned home.

“I arrived [in Spain] on December 17, kissed [Marisa’s] belly, and said, ‘You can be born now,’ and [Victoria] was born that night,” Gascón recalled on theA solas conpodcast.

Gascón and her wife are raising Victoria to be self-sufficient

In January 2020, Gascón spoke withInfobae Méxicoabout how she and Marisa parent their daughter.

“We understand each other when it comes to raising [Victoria]. The truth is that we don’t treat her like a boy or a girl, but like a person,” the actress told the outlet.

Gascón continued, “We treat her like a human being, not even as something of our own, we always saw her as a human being that we were going to have to help to be self-sufficient in this world.”

As a mother, Gascón is admittedly protective. This informed her decision to deactivate her X account in January 2025 after being “threatened with death, insulted, abused and harassed to the point of exhaustion” on social media following her most recent controversies.

“I have a wonderful daughter to protect, whom I love madly and who supports me in everything,” Gascón wrote in a statement toThe Hollywood Reporter.

Apart from sharing insights about her family during interviews, Gascón often posts about Marisa and Victoria, especially during the filming ofEmilia Pérezin Europe.

Gascón also brought Victoria to see the filming of the musical comedy up close. “My little one accompanied me to work ❤️,“she captioneda behind-the-scenes photo of them in Spanish.

Both Marisa and Victoria have supported Gascón’s newfound Hollywood success. They were present alongside the actress at the New York Film Festival screening ofEmilia Pérezin September 2024 and the film’s Golden Globes pre-party in January 2025.

Shortly after, Gascón and Marisa made their red carpet debut at the 82nd annual Golden Globes.
