While speaking withEntertainment Weeklyin June 2024, Smith called playingMike Lowrey"an absolute joy," and showed interest in reprising his role for a fifth film as long as there’s a story to tell.
“I never wanted to be one of those dudes who make sequels just because people will go [see it],” he said. “I want to make them because there is something to say and the characters have a place that they’re developing to that will be interesting and fun to watch and maybe even a little helpful.”

Lawrenceis a true ride-or-die when it comes to theBad Boysfranchise.
“I’m going to carry on as long as my brother carries on,” Lawrence toldEmpireof Smith in August 2024. “It’ll be very hard to get rid of me.”
In conversation withEntertainment Weekly, the actor expressed a similar loyalty to the fan base.
“Will and I have a great time working together, so as long as the fans want it and the demand is there, I’ll keep trying to give them what they want,” Lawrence said.
At the end ofBad Boys: Ride or Die, Lowrey and Burnett, with the help of Mike’s son Armando Aretas (Jacob Scipio), determine that former special ops soldier James McGrath (Eric Dane) is responsible for trying to frame the late Captain Howard for corruption related to the cartel. They also discover that Miami District Attorney Adam Lockwood (Ioan Gruffudd) is aiding McGrath and allowing the cartel to smuggle drugs across the border in exchange for intel on terrorist threats to the United States.
With the Bad Boys hot on his trail, McGrath kidnaps Lowrey’s wife Christine (Melanie Liburd) and Captain Howard’s granddaughter Callie (Quinn Hemphill) and takes them to an abandoned marine park — home to a giant albino alligator named Duke.
A massive firefight ensues and Lowrey experiences a panic attack, a symptom of his guilt regarding the death of Howard. Burnett slaps him back to reality — a scene many fans believe is a nod toSmith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscarsin 2022.
Meanwhile, Armando, who is technically a wanted fugitive, manages to get Callie to safety. Out of gratitude, Callie’s mother, a U.S. Marshall, allows him to get in a boat, which he takes south to Cuba.
