A woman expecting her first child says her mother-in-law kept overstepping her boundaries when it came to the nursery, and eventually it became a major problem.
In a recent post on Reddit’s “Am I the A——?,” the 26-year-old woman shared that she and her husband, 27, are expecting their first child. Now 32 weeks pregnant, the woman said that “things have been going pretty well,” expect when it comes to her mother-in-law, who “has always been a bit of a nightmare.”
As the couple continued to make progress with the nursery, the woman said her mother-in-law “decided to invite herself around more,” and that during her visits, she would “wander into the nursery, and start rearranging things.”
Then things escalated.
Then the woman claimed that her mother-in-law “looked me in the eyes” and said she had doubts about her being a “good mother.”

“I don’t know if it was the pregnancy hormones but I just stared at her for a moment and then told her to get out of the house,” the woman wrote.
In asubsequent update, the woman said she told her husband everything — and that he was “furious” with his mom.
After her husband had lunch with his mom, the woman said that he felt everything had been “sorted.” A few minutes later, she even got a message from her mother-in-law, who said “she was very sorry for what she had said to me” and “that she was in the wrong.”
The woman said that her mother-in-law also promised to “only visit when invited” and not to go into the nursery anymore.
Although the woman said “I’ll believe it when I see it,” she admitted that “at least it’s a good start.”
As to be expected, commenters had a lot of opinions about the saga, but pretty much everyone was happy with how things turned out.
“[He] really does understand her tactics and knows how to counter them!” read another reply. “If she starts up again, be sure to nip it in the bud and pat yourselves on each others backs for a job well done.”
