The woman — who shared her story on Reddit’s“Am I the A——”forum on Thursday, Jan. 2 — explained that she usually helps take care of her 6-year-old nephew and 4-year-old niece whenever her brother, 27, needs help, but New Year’s was the “last blow” for her.

“I texted, called, and even tried calling the party location, but no one answered,” the Reddit user said, noting that the couple was “clearly drunk” when they finally returned.
“They pretended it wasn’t a big deal,” she continued, adding, “My brother laughed when I told him how upset I was that they had left me all night and said, ‘You didn’t have anything important going on anyway.’ ”
“That hurt a lot,” the woman shared. “I told him they could no longer have me watch [their kids] if they couldn’t respect my plans or time.”

The OP (original poster) revealed that her brother is now mad at her and has accused her of “being too tough.” She’s now wondering if she’s the “a——” for standing her ground.

Another person stressed the importance of an apology from the brother and his wife.
“They not only disrespected your time and broke their promise to be back at a designated hour, they had to be excessively rude about the way they did it," the Redditor wrote. “They are taking you for granted and don’t think your plans with friends are as important as theirs. I wouldn’t feel the need to go out of my way for them ever again. Not without a sincere apology and changed behavior.”
