Zoe SaldañaandSelena Gomezappeared together at the 2025SAG Awardswithout theirEmilia PérezcostarKarla Sofía Gascón, who hasskipped awards shows of lateafter facing controversies regarding offensive past social media posts.

“Emilia Pérezwas a magical collaboration where we got to sing and dance and explore the journey of being authentically yourself,” Saldaña said during their appearance.

Saldaña also noted, “Every once in a while we get a movie that dares to be unpredictable as life itself, and here she is,” before a montage of moments from the Netflix genre-bending crime-drama musical played.

Gascón, 52, has not appeared at awards shows in recent weeks despite her numerous nominations for playing the title character inEmilia Pérezafter journalists found that she had written posts on social media that criticized Muslim culture,George Floydand diversity at the Academy Awards in the past.

While the actress has apologized numerous times for those posts, she seeminglyvowed to stay out of the public eyefor the remainder of awards season in a Feb. 6 post shared to Instagram afterEmilia Pérez’s director Jacques Audiard said in an interview that Gascón was taking a “self destructive approach” to handling the controversy.
